For a cyclist to race in events, provincially or nationally he / she is required to purchase a license from Cycling South Africa (CSA) at a cost of R250 for the season or alternatively buy a day license.
In our Schools’ MTB League events cyclists do not require a CSA license to participate. Instead, a school needs to be affiliated to School Cycling South Africa (SCSA). Pupils attending a school that is affiliated to SCSA may participate in the Schools’ MTB League events, by paying the required entry fee only.
Affiliation fees are payable to Schools Cycling South Africa (SCSA). SCSA pays 50% of the fee to WCSC. Apart from generating working capital for provincial and national structures, the biggest benefit of the affiliation regulation is liability cover for the rider.
Affiliation fees in the Western Cape are payable and must be paid by Leap Day, 29 February 2024. Team managers must register their schools, using the registration link. An invoice for the school will be generated once the registration has been completed.
Affiliation (or registration) fees can then be paid.
Affiliation fees per school for 2024
1 – 20 riders R500
21 – 50 riders R1000
50+ riders R1500
A list of affiliated schools will be updated on our website regularly to help riders from schools that are not affiliated, to enter.
Once entries for events open and we have a situation where a school is not affiliated, a rider will be required to pay the normal entry fee plus an additional R100 to have the school affiliated. The second pupil from that school will also have to pay the additional R100 affiliation fee, and so on until the affiliation fee of R500 is paid.
More and more parents are having fruitful discussions with schools to persuade the school to embrace Mountain Biking as a school sport and to include the affiliation fee in the annual sports budget.
